Responsible business
BP was one of the first foreign companies to set up in Poland after the fall of Communism and has been a pioneer and leader in corporate social investment and responsible business practice.
Care and attention for the environment starts at the pumps. The company were the first in Poland to exclusively retail unleaded fuel; sulphur in BP diesel is below the required government level and service stations are equipped with ecological car wash facilities.
BP has twice been awarded the prestigious title ‘Benefactor of the Year’ by the Polish Academy of Philanthropy for its commitment to social investment: in 1999 it received the award for its support of the SME support programme ‘Clean Business’, and in 2003 it again received the award for its support of the programmes ‘Fields of Hope’ (a fundraising campaign for private hospices which started with one hospice in Kraków and now extends to over 40 hospices nationally) and ‘Pajaczyk’ (a national programme to supply meals to underprivileged children in schools).
BP Polska also provides long-term support to the St. Lazarus Hospice in Kraków and is a long-term partner in the ‘Autokreacja’ (Self Creation) programme, which supports the long-term unemployed back into work.
The company also supports a number of educational initiatives, including scholarships to the Tischner European University and the University of Economics in Kraków.
